The North Suburban Concert Band was founded in 1981 under the direction of Clay McCarney. Over the years, the band has had several directors, including Michael Halstenson, Steve Lyons, Michael Scott, John Lace, John Rosner, and Shannon Curtis. In 2023, the baton will be passed to one of our fantastic director candidates. Since its inception, the band has strongly emphasized quality through its direction, musical literature, commitment of the members, rehearsal and performance standards.
NSCB is composed of about 80 members from Anoka County, Minnesota, and surrounding areas. Our membership is diverse including teachers, scientists, nurses, business professionals, homemakers and more, from recent high school graduates to retirees, all sharing a passion for making music together.
The band plays an assortment of concert band music, including pop tunes, marches, classical pieces, as well as some original works and medleys. Members also have the opportunity to play in small ensembles as well as the NSCB Jazz Band at a couple concerts each year.
